The National Golf Course Owners Association (NGCOA) recently announced Broad Run Golfer’s Club as Pennsylvania’s 2014 Golf Course of the Year.

Each year the NGCOA recognizes golf courses that epitomizes exceptional course quality and management excellence, while making important contributions to their communities and the game. For anyone who has played golf at Broad Run, you know that NGCOA’s recognition is rightfully deserved.

Like all Rees Jones designed golf courses, Broad Run is fair, challenging, continually interesting to play, and visually exciting. Each hole offers a variety of shot options, allowing the golfer to dictate the challenge of play. Playability isn’t sacrificed for flashy features that penalize less than perfect shots. Bunkers are strategic features, carefully placed to achieve a certain shot value rather than being non-essential elements that are merely "window dressing". Tees accommodate golfers of differing skills, from beginners to PGA professionals. Players of all levels can enjoy a scenic round without fear of getting beaten up by the course.

In the spring of 2012, Jonathan Byler of Byler Golf Management purchased the golf course. Mr. Byler quickly assembled a seasoned management team lead by General Manager Jeff and Head Golf Professional Peter Lovenguth. Within two golfing seasons, this team has focused on a improving the restarant, quickening the pace of play, providing a more stable environment for employees, and increasing operational efficiency. These changes have been well received by patrons and has yielded a better golfing experience.

For the past two years, Broad Run has raised money for charity by hosting an End of Summer Bash festival. Twenty percent of all food and beverage and 100% of all contest money is was donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

The property upon which the golf course was built is registered as Exceptional Value Watershed. Broad Run works closely with the State of Pennsylvania and the Brandywine Conservancy to protect and preserve this natural land. Broad Run Golfer’s Club Winners will be formally recognized at the NGCOA awards ceremony February 5 during their 2014 Annual Conference in Orlando.

Broad Run is the third of the five golf courses comprising the Greater Philadelphia GOLF TRAIL (GPGT) to be recognized by the NGCOA as Pennsylvania’s Golf Course of the Year. GOLF TRAIL golf courses have won this prestigious award three of the last four years with Honeybrook Golf Club being recognized in 2009 and Wyncote Golf Club being recognized in 2010.

Founded in 2013 by XPLORE publisher John Mason, GPGT is a collection of the top five award winning golf courses in the Greater Philadelphia region. Each member golf course is designed by a noteworthy architect and offers a unique golfing experience. By promoting themselves collectively, local and traveling golfing groups are offered the best golf in the area for the best value.
